A chisel is an indispensable part of a demolition hammer. The chisel is the component of the hammer that directly contacts the material to be broken. But which chisel is suitable for which materials?
The right chisel ensures more efficient demolition of materials and limits damage and/or wear on the demolition hammer. Epiroc demolition hammers come standard with a pointed chisel, but are also available with blunt chisels, flat chisels, spade chisels (SB series), and asphalt chisels (SB series).
The pointed chisel is particularly suitable for breaking high-hardness materials, such as stone, concrete, and asphalt. This efficiency results from the concentrated transfer of impact force to a limited area. This chisel shape is mainly used for splitting material and is best applied to flat materials to avoid shearing.
The blunt chisel has a flat underside and is considered the most effective chisel for breaking large hard materials, like rock formations, blast furnace slag, concrete structures, and asphalt. The significant impact area facilitates the effective breaking of brittle and stubborn materials. The blunt chisel is mainly used for curved surfaces where a pointed chisel cannot be set flat but is also ideal for breaking concrete slabs, like those on runways.
Every chisel undergoes strict quality control and performs exactly like every other chisel produced in our factory - Epiroc
The flat chisel (screwdriver model) is specifically designed for removing large amounts of material or leveling surfaces. The demolition chisel’s power is evenly distributed across the width of the chisel. This type is primarily used in mining and for shaping rock formations, but also for demolishing reinforced concrete structures.
The spade chisel, available for the SB series demolition hammers, is mainly used for removing tiles and cement. The demolition chisel's force is evenly distributed across the chisel's width.
The asphalt chisel, available for the SB series demolition hammers, is used specifically for breaking asphalt. Its wider surface makes it ideal for removing asphalt.
